As we celebrate the National Volunteer Week in our communities, cities and provinces, Extra Miles wishes to recognize its volunteers who make it possible for some isolated seniors to be heard and understood: Robert, Corinna, Joan, Mable, Rebecca, Iris, Jackie, Bill, Carol, Cheryl, Eleanor, Lilly, Dieter and Robin are Volunteers in Action – Helping, Uniting, Building!
You are invited to “An afternoon at the opera with Isabelle Metwalli” today at 2pm. Isabelle (soprano) will sing with Sonia Sasseville (contralto), Marc Adolph (tenor), Dion Mazzerolle (Baryton) and will be accompanied at the piano by Jacques Saint-Jean. The program will include opera excerpts, broadway songs and a few surprises! Come one, come all - to share a relaxed and entertaining afternoon here at Montreal West United Church. Donations: $20 adults, $8 children under 18 years old, $40 family.
A Musical Wednesday on May 14th at 2:30pm. This brass concert will feature music from Bach to Joplin, from Brahms to Bernstein. The performers are: on Trombone: James Box & Vivian Lee, on Bass Trombone: Pierre Beaudry and on Tuba: Dennis Miller. They are members of the Low Brass section of the OSM. This concert is a benefit for our Extra Miles Senior Visitation Program. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased during coffee time or at the door on May 14th.
Do not forget our Window Fund 2008 – The Trustees will match all donations! For further information, please speak to John Cooper.
Black Buttons and Jam/Jelly Jars are still needed. Please drop them off at the church office.
Sunday School Fundscrip – Orders will be taken today – delivery next week.
The Outreach Committee and the Sunday School will be supporting the Cure Foundation and its National Denim Day on Tuesday, May 13th, 2008. The Cure Foundation raises funds for Breast Cancer Research. Ribbons will be sold at coffee time today and next Sunday.
The Worship Committee will meet on Wednesday, May 7th at 7:30pm in Room 6.
Windows of Opportunity – The property committee invites the congregation to assist in the refurbishing or replacement of several windows of our church building. Buy a window ($1000), or a pane of glass ($50.00), or contribute to the refurbishment of the leaded windows ($100 - $1000). Contributions may be made in memory of someone or in celebration of some event. Please ear-mark your donations “Window Fund 2008”.
COME DANCE WITH US - You are invited to join the Fellowship Committee for an afternoon of LINE DANCING on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 from 2:00 TO 4:00 PM. Our very own Cathie MacFarlane will be leading the dancers. Mark this date on your calendars now! Suggested donation $5.00 plus a selection for the dessert buffet (maximum $20.00 for families.) All funds donated will be given to a charity selected by the Committee.
Please sign up in advance. Debbe Scott will have sign-up sheets at Coffee Hour or you can call the church office. Come along and have a fun filled afternoon.
Inexperienced or expert, young or not as young, step in line and you’ll do fine!
