The MWUC Book Browse Plus which included children & adult books (fiction & non-fiction), CDs, DVDs, puzzles, homemade snacks, etc. Book, music and film donations, was a great success. Thanks to Lenore Beitel for organizing this and to all her assistants on the day.
"Music can cure things medication never will" (unknown). The music was inspiring. With many thanks to our volunteers (the organizers, bakers, setter-uppers, greeters, ticket sellers, elevator operators, servers, cleaner uppers and piano tuner) sponsors, Ms. Lucy’s class at Elizabeth Ballantyne School, the guests who brought a friend or two and guests, Musical Thursday 2018 benefitting Extra Miles and the seniors in our community was a delightful success. Our long-time friend, pianist Laurie Altman together with Richard Roberts, Kuriko Yokoyama, Douglas McNabney, and Geneviève Guimond playing selections by Antonin Dvořák treated over 150 people to a joyful program. (Laurie was a true inspiration…. She was soooooo very sick).
The tea and treats following the concert was humming with fellowship. With thanks to our generous sponsors, at least 40 people, who would not otherwise be able to attend such an event, were treated to the special show. 5 taxis were used to bring some individuals, referred by the CLSC, to the concert and to return them home safely (most with a parting gift of home baked goodies).
The guests were thrilled with the concert and appreciated the graciousness of the MWUC community, the wonderful tea and social time. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU….
Thank you for being part of the cure!
